Novi went from farm village to suburb

Novi didn't become a city until 1969, and in 1970 it had just 9,668 people. By the 2020 census it had 66,243. Twelve Oaks Mall opened in 1977, the highways came through, and the subdivisions followed.

Across the Novi Community School District, about 64% of homes were built between 1970 and 1999, and about 28% since 2000. Only around 8% are older than that. The city counted 27,380 housing units in 2020, up 13% from 2010. Novi does keep a few older landmarks, like the Novi Depot, built in 1871.
