Two kinds of Northville house
The City of Northville is small, 6,119 people at the 2020 census, and it sits in two counties, with Eight Mile Road as the line between Oakland and Wayne. Its core is the Northville Historic District, on the National Register since 1972, with 73 contributing buildings. Most are Gothic Revival houses built between 1860 and 1880, with Greek Revival and Queen Anne mixed in.
Northville Township is a different place: 31,758 people, all in Wayne County, and a big share of its homes built in the 1970s and 80s, with newer subdivisions after that.
What each one usually needs
- Trim, crown, and arched casing: in an older house downtown, trim should match what's there, so we'd want close photos of the existing casing and base first.
- Stairs and railings: in a township colonial, the staircase is one of the biggest visible upgrades: new treads, a heavier rail, iron balusters.
- Fireplace mantels: a mantel is one piece that can look right in either kind of house, depending on the profiles.
- Custom built-ins: built-in bookcases on either side of a fireplace work in a Victorian parlor and a 1980s family room alike.

Northville is on the far west side of Metro Detroit from our base in Shelby Township. It's a drive, and it's inside the area we serve.
