Macomb Township is the most populous civil township in Michigan, with 91,663 people at the 2020 census. Most of that happened recently. The township had 17,922 housing units in 2000 and 27,585 by 2010, and its population grew 48% between 2000 and 2008 alone.
So the typical house here isn't old. Roughly half of the township's homes were built since 2000, and most of the rest between 1970 and 1999. About 78% are single-family houses. That's a lot of builder-grade finish carpentry that's ready for an upgrade.
Where a newer house usually comes up short

- Wall paneling and picture-frame molding: a big open wall in a new build looks unfinished. Picture-frame molding gives it depth without a single new window or wall.
- Stairs and railings: builder balusters and a thin handrail are easy to spot. Iron balusters and a heavier rail make the staircase look custom.
- Fireplace mantels: a stock fireplace surround can be rebuilt with a real mantel, legs, and a shelf that fits the room.
